Students from Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA), a K through 12 public cyber charter school, are supporting midstate communities this holiday season by applying their knowledge of agriculture to grow and harvest produce and donating it to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

Student volunteers and interns from AgWorks at CCA™– the largest public educational aquaponics facility in the country – on November 21 harvested approximately 20 pounds of lettuce to be donated. Since the official launch of AgWorks at CCA™ in December 2018, CCA students have grown and donated approximately 380 pounds of produce to the food bank.

“We are grateful for the ongoing contributions from the students at Commonwealth Charter Academy to support the 135,000 people we serve every month,” said Joe Arthur, executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “The donations we receive are vital to achieving our mission of ending hunger, and it is encouraging to see these students join in that mission as they work to give back to their community.”
