Commonwealth Charter Academy’s (CCA) – a K through 12 public cyber charter school serving Pennsylvania families – students and families in November participated in more than 50 educational field trips designed to provide students with hands-on, career exploration experiences in public sector professions.

Students in all grade levels participated in activities related to careers in law enforcement, nonprofit organizations and government service, and more. The field trips included a cooking lesson at Thyme in Your Kitchen in Sharon, Mercer County; a visit to the 171st Air Refueling Wing of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in Pittsburgh for the “Eyes to the Skies” day; hands-on drills at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey; a visit to the Yeadon Police Department in Delaware County; and a “Camo Boots” day at the Army Reserve Center in Dunmore, Lackawanna County, to learn about military jobs and participate in physical fitness tests.

“CCA’s field trips provide students with opportunities to extend their learning beyond the virtual classroom, connect with their teachers, and socialize and interact with their peers,” said Dr. Maurice Flurie, president and CEO of CCA. “These trips also are designed to offer students hands-on, informative activities to explore possible career paths.”

Enabled by CCA’s flexible, personalized learning schedule, the school’s family services department each year plans more than 500 field trips across the state.

CCA’s student field trips for December will focus on careers in business and marketing, including accounting, business consulting and brand management.
