Online school social interaction is vibrant and varied. CCA students collaborate with their classmates from across the state in real time during virtual lessons, have the chance to attend hundreds of social and educational field trips with their classmates, can consider joining dozens of clubs that meet online and in person, and attend special educational and social events at our Family Service Centers.
An online school social life rivals any students’ social opportunities in a traditional brick-and-mortar school. Cyber school students also are eligible to participate on any of the sports teams offered at their local school district. Public cyber school students also can take part in other extracurricular activities offered at their local school district, such as a school play.
CCA families find many opportunities for their students to be involved in extracurricular activities. In fact, one of the many benefits of the flexible schedule offered at a cyber school is that students can arrange their days and evenings to their liking to participate in multiple activities and not impact their classroom learning.
CCA students are encouraged to try different extracurricular activities to broaden their experiences, meet new friends and learn new skills.
Two of the best venues for socialization in online school are CCA’s social and educational field trips.
CCA offers more than 700 field trips a year across the state, and each is a prime opportunity for socialization and hands-on learning.
Our educational field trips let participants learn new things through hands-on activities that reinforce what they are learning in their online classroom.
CCA also offers field trips that are designed to foster socializing in online school while students take part in fun, hands-on activities. Our itineraries have included everything from trips to trampoline parks, zip line courses and petting zoos to playing laser tag and bowling. CCA also hosts special events like game and movie nights at our regional Family Service Centers.
Unlike brick-and-mortar schools where students might miss classroom lessons to attend a trip, cyber schools have built-in schedule flexibility so students never miss an opportunity to learn online or on a field trip.
If you wonder how your child can navigate an online school social life, rest assured that CCA fosters important social connections among all of our students.
CCA offers dozens of clubs every school year and refreshes those club offerings every year to reflect students’ changing interests. If you don’t see a club that reflects your interest, you can apply to start one that does!
Socializing in online school is easy through CCA’s clubs. Most of the groups’ meetings are virtual, although some meet in person for competitions and at CCA’s regional Family Service Centers.
We offer students the opportunity to enhance their online school social life in groups geared to their interests, be it science experiments, writing poetry or any other interest students might want to explore. We also encourage our students to branch out and give a brand-new activity a try. It’s easy with our flexible scheduling.
CCA is the only public cyber charter school in Pennsylvania to offer multiple fully equipped mobile classrooms. We are always looking for ways to build new connections with our students and families, and we find that the mobile classrooms are perfect to enhance online school socialization.
Our mobile classrooms are on the road the entire school year, serving CCA families statewide with hands-on, indoor and outdoor educational activities using the technology onboard.
CCA’s mobile classrooms, which we purchased and outfitted with grant money, travel from 10,000 to 20,000 miles a year – from Philadelphia to Erie and everywhere in between – to bring learning opportunities to our families.
The mobile classrooms carry everything from wireless internet and smartboards to a fully stocked science lab, and they offer our students a unique avenue for socializing in cyber school.
Activities that CCA students can participate in through the mobile classrooms include:
Enrolling at CCA not only provides you with a customized education, but it gives you and your family the ability to access that education at a time that works best for all of you – wherever you are. That inherent flexibility makes it easier for CCA students to pursue activities that interest them inside and outside of school.
CCA students learn through real-time virtual lessons, recorded lessons, field trips, independent study and hands-on, career-readiness opportunities. All of those learning options mean that, if students cannot participate in a real-time online class, they can watch lessons at a time that works better for their schedule.
With so many ways to pursue a customized education at CCA, students will find continuous opportunities in their online school for social interaction. The flexibility also opens the door for students to take advantage of the many clubs offered at CCA, participate in sports, take up a new hobby or sign up for extra lessons in any pursuit, be it dance, a musical instrument or precision sports training. CCA even provides a community class reimbursement to families for approved activities they want to pursue that are not offered at our cyber school. It also allows students to pursue a part-time job, internship or job-shadowing opportunities during times when students in traditional schools must be sitting in a classroom. It respects the family’s time, making it possible to spend more time together in family activities.
With such flexibility in scheduling and so many options for activities inside and outside the virtual classroom, socializing in online school is an everyday part of learning at CCA.
When students make the change from a brick-and-mortar school to a cyber school, our staff and family mentors are there to offer ongoing support to our new families.
At CCA, education is a team effort centered around the family. It’s why we provide the means to build strong foundations for support through family relationships. Through our Family Services Department, which houses several non-academic resources, we help new students and their families during and after the transition to cyber school.
Our teachers work closely with each family to build a support system that includes the student and parent or other designated learning coach. Through collaborative Family Services outreach, we work diligently to foster the connection between CCA and the families we serve.
The Family Services Department includes family involvement coordinators, family mentors and regional Family Service Centers at locations across the state.
Our FICs are available to answer questions and concerns regarding any aspect of the family mentoring role. These individuals oversee mentors from several Pennsylvania regions to help families benefit from CCA’s unique cyber school. This knowledgeable team of CCA professionals also hosts orientations, weekly support sessions, and ongoing family training throughout the school year.
Family mentors are veteran parents assigned to new families who enroll in our school. They are available year-round to answer non-academic questions and offer advice to learning coaches, students and their families as they become acquainted with online education. They are particularly helpful in providing tips for successful socialization in online school.
CCA operates regional Family Service Centers across Pennsylvania that serve as resources for students and their families. CCA teachers conduct virtual classes from the centers, and families can stop by for in-person help with enrollment and meetings with administrators and guidance counselors, or to use any of our extensive services.
Our service centers host open house sessions for potential families to learn what online schooling is like, and student clubs sometimes meet at the centers, adding another element to your child’s online school social life.
