Outdoor Emergency Preparedness

Learners in Outdoor Emergency Preparedness will develop an understanding of ways to protect themselves, their community, and environment in an outdoor emergency. Learners will demonstrate outdoor skills and techniques and apply them in different settings. Course topics include fitness and wellness benefits with each outdoor activity, the proper use and care of outdoor equipment, planning for outdoor activities, first aid, outdoor emergency care, CPR, and winter rescue. Learners will also develop an understanding of outdoor sports injuries, wilderness extractions, high-altitude illness, cold weather conditions, and specialized equipment for emergency care and transportation in challenging environments.
