Throughout January, Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA) students in grades K through 12 participated in more than 25 educational field trips designed to provide them with hands-on, career exploration experiences.

Students and their families participated in activities related to careers in science and environmental studies.

January’s field trips included visits to Ecosystems Exploration at Tuscarora Wildlife Education Project in Mercersburg, Franklin County; Forensics 101 at the Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology in Linesville, Crawford County; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Create at the Art of Recycle in Ephrata, Lancaster County; and Leaping Into Science at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

“CCA’s field trips provide students a wide range of opportunities to apply their online classroom experience to real-life applications, while at the same time exploring various career interests,” CCA President and CEO Dr. Maurice Flurie said. “CCA is laser focused on ensuring every student has the ability to realize their potential and expand their horizon, and field trips allow students to learn from industry professionals and subject matter experts.”

Enabled by CCA’s flexible, personalized learning schedule, the Family Services Department each year plans more than 700 field trips across the state. These include educational and social activities to provide learners with the opportunity not only to explore career paths but to engage with classmates and build relationships with teachers and staff.

CCA’s field trips for February will continue to focus on careers in science, as well as those involving history, with trips to the Museum of the American Revolution and a STEM Fair at Penn State Behrend, and visits to science centers across the state.
