HARRISBURG, Pa. – As the American Red Cross nationally celebrates its annual American Red Cross Month in March, students from Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA) marked the occasion by gaining hands-on experience with the organization.

On Tuesday, March 10, CCA students met with representatives from the Red Cross at the school’s Dickson City Family Service Center for basic first-aid training. They also learned about various career and volunteer opportunities with the Red Cross.

Every year, the president of the United States declares March as American Red Cross Month. Created in 1943, American Red Cross Month honors and celebrates those who help the organization fulfill its mission.

Enabled by CCA’s flexible, personalized learning schedule, the Family Services Department plans more than 700 field trips across the state annually. They provide students with a firsthand look at various careers, and serve as an opportunity for students who learn in a virtual setting to get to know their classmates and teachers in person.
