Appendix E: CCA Acceptable Use Guidelines
All learners, parents, legal guardians, Learning Coaches and employees are expected to be familiar with and follow the expectations and requirements of the CCA Acceptable Use Policy. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that individuals are aware of their responsibilities regarding the internet, related technology and equipment. Thispolicy helps ensure the safety and privacy of current and former learners, parents and employees. This policy applies to all users and outlines the basic rules and requirements with which all users are required to comply when using technology. The users as well as the parents or legal guardians of minor users will be responsible for compliance with this policy.
Definition of the Term: User
In the case of the Acceptable Use Policy, users refer to parents, legal guardians, students/learners, Learning Coaches and staff who use CCA’s educational management software, school-issued technology and software.
Acknowledgment
By signing the Charter Enrollment Form or the Designated Learning Coach Agreement, the Caretaker, the Designated Learning Coach (person other than parent or legal guardian working with the learner), and the noncustodial parent acknowledge that they have read, understood and agree to abide by this policy.
The Caretaker and/or Designated Learning Coach agree to be fully responsible for explaining this policy to the learner, ensuring that the learner understands their obligations under this policy and abides by it. When the user is not a minor, the user agrees that the learner understands the obligations of this policy and agrees to be fully responsible for abiding by this policy.
Penalties for Improper Use
Any violation of this Acceptable Use Policy may result in warnings, usage restrictions, including termination of access privileges to CCA’s learning management software or programs, the loss of a computer provided to the user by CCA, the loss of an internet subsidy (where such a subsidy is provided by the school), as well as other disciplinary actions or legal proceedings.
User Account, Password, and Security
Users of CCA’s Education Management Programs are required to use a unique username and password to access the system. The username and password may be changed by a user after the initial logon. The unique username is used to recognize the user and determines the user’s access rights.
To the extent that users are provided with the ability to enter or change their or their learner’s personal information in CCA’s educational management program (such as address, phone number, etc.), users are responsible for supplying accurate information and keeping this information updated.
Users are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their usernames and passwords. Furthermore, users are solely responsible for all activities that occur under their accounts. Users must notify CCA immediately of any unauthorized use of their accounts or any other breach of security. CCA will not be liable for any loss that a user may incur as a result of someone else using the learner’s password or account either with or without the user’s knowledge. Users may not use anyone else’s account at any time for any reason.
Use of the Internet
Use of the internet is required to access CCA’s educational programming. All learning management software programs used by CCA are secure, and every effort is made to ensure the quality and safety of its content. Users should be aware that some material accessible through the internet may contain items that are illegal, obscene, defamatory, inaccurate or potentially offensive to some people. Some of this material may be harmful if accessed by minors. In addition, it is possible to purchase certain goods and services via the internet that could result in unwanted financial obligations for which a learner’s Caretaker would be liable. CCA believes that the benefits gained from having access to the internet, in the form of information, resources and opportunities for users’ collaboration, exceed the disadvantages. However, all users must understand and practice acceptable and ethical use.
CCA strongly recommends that caretakers, Learning Coaches, and noncustodial parents, where applicable, monitor their minor learner’s internet time. CCA supports and respects each family’s right to decide how to manage access, including providing internet- filtering software where requested.
CCA uses content and message filters to prevent users from accessing material that have been determined to be obscene, offensive, pornographic, harmful to minors, or otherwise inconsistent with the school’s educational mission.
School Computer Equipment
CCA provides a computer for enrolled learners. All users should be aware that CCA-issued computers are installed with software that permits computer use to be monitored or shut down remotely. Personal information is not collected or maintained by CCA in connection with such monitoring. However, CCA has the right to monitor school-issued computers or if the computers are not returned upon request.
Computer Software and Email
All users should be aware that CCA computers are shipped with only CCA-issued software installed. Users will not be provided with administrator rights over the system configuration. Installation of ANY software — including malware (e.g., adware, spyware, and freeware) — without specific permission by CCA is strictly prohibited and may result in charges for any required repairs and additional penalties for improper use.
Users are not permitted to install any email program directly onto a CCA computer. By using an unauthorized email program or system, users risk contaminating the CCA computer with a virus, which could result in charges for computer repair and additional penalties for breach of the policy. By using unauthorized email, users also run the risk of losing any email permanently if the CCA computer must be restored, reimaged or returned for repair. CCA will not be responsible for the loss of any such information.
Use of Technology
All use of technology (computer, software and any other technology provided by CCA) supplied by CCA must comply with the following:
- Except where permitted, all technology is to be used only for school purposes and must comply with this Acceptable Use Policy.
