Thomas D. Longenecker joined CCA in 2012 as chief operations officer and became president and chief executive officer on July 1, 2020. Today, he leads more than 2,500 professionals serving over 35,000 students in grades K-12 across Pennsylvania.
With more than 30 years of experience in school operations leadership, Mr. Longenecker previously served in the Carlisle Area, Conrad Weiser Area, and Susquenita school districts. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at Wilkes University and Shippensburg University.
He holds a Pennsylvania superintendent letter of eligibility, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Wilkes University, a bachelor’s degree in economics from Shippensburg University, and an associate degree in business from Harrisburg Area Community College.
Mr. Longenecker has been widely recognized for his leadership, including being named to the Lehigh Valley Business 2025 PowerList Power 100; Top 20 Pioneering CEOs of 2023 by Industry Tech Insights; City & State Pennsylvania Fifty Over 50 (2023); and the Pittsburgh Smart 50 (2022). He has also received the Patriot Award and Seven Seals Award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, is a two-time recipient of the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence, and earned the PASBO Award of Achievement in 2011.
Under his leadership, CCA has been recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania (2022, 2023, 2024) by the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal and earned its first designation as a Purple Star School (2024–2026) by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Longenecker enjoys spending time with his family, outdoor activities, and making memories with family and friends.
