Honors Social Studies 8

In Honors Social Studies 8, learners explore the early history of the United States from settlement, colonization, and the American Revolution through the Civil War utilizing collaboration, multimedia, and projects. Learners will investigate the causes that led to the colonization of the Americas and the eventual founding of a new country. They will then explore the early republic and issues founders encountered along the way. Westward expansion, internal and external conflicts, and the Gold Rush will also be studied. Honors Social Studies 8 closes with a study of the election of Abraham Lincoln, the rising tensions between the North and South, and the Civil War. Through the course, learners will make connection between the formation of the United States and the current country. The study of primary sources and document-based discussions is also emphasized.
