English Language Arts K incorporates phonics, handwriting, reading, writing, and language into a comprehensive language arts program. Young learners will understand the basic features of print, explore spoken sounds and their printed form, and apply phonics skills to decode words. Learners will discover how the relationship between words and illustrations in narrative and informative texts helps them understand the text as a whole. Learners will use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to share narrative, explanatory, and opinion writing pieces. Through engaging texts, learners will explore digital citizenship, communities, the physical world, geography, plants and animals, wants and needs, weather, and history.
