Honors English 10

Honors English 10 challenges learners to focus on understanding the artistic achievement and meaning of the individual literary work – its language, literary technique, characterization, and theme. In-depth applications of the concepts taught ask learners to think beyond the classroom. Learners consider the implications of historical and biographical factors to understand the works in the context of the writers’ lives and the historical period in which they lived. The course emphasizes strategies to enhance writing skills. The successful Honors English learner demonstrates mastery of standard English material in prior grade levels. Learners should expect a rigorous reading and writing curriculum, in-class discourse, and a faster pace. The most successful Honors English learners are strong writers with highly developed organizational skills.
