Honors Chemistry

Honors Chemistry will provide a foundation in the skills required for scientific analysis such as measurement and mathematical analysis of data which will be used to gain an understanding of chemistry concepts. The course will also provide a more in-depth study of elemental chemistry; learners will explore atoms and elements, concepts in chemical bonding, and how atoms and elements react to one another. Scientific inquiry, interactive experiences, higher-order thinking, real-world application, and a variety of assessments will help reinforce the concepts covered in this course, which include the properties of matter, solutions, and energy. Learners will also be introduced to the principles of electrochemistry and nuclear chemistry. Learners will participate in hands-on and simulation-based labs and communicate their lab investigation findings in formal lab reports. They will also practice and demonstrate critical thinking skills by creating and interpreting graphs and diagrams. The most successful Honors science learners are problem solvers and strong writers with highly developed organization skills.
