Access to and Use of CCA Technology Resources
CCA’s Board of Trustees has adopted Policy 6:330 Access to and Use of CCA Technology Resources, which governs access to and use of CCA’s technology resources, including, but not limited to, the relationship management system, laptops, monitors, networks, electronic mail services, and the Internet. This policy explains the purpose, conditions, rules, and procedures for: responsible and appropriate use of school technology and online behavior, and security of all technology resources.
Prior to participating in CCA’s educational program, learners and Caretakers acknowledge that they have received and read Policy 6:330 and agree to abide by its provisions. Policy 6:330 is available for review in its entirety on the CCA website; school administrators and authorized employees monitor the use of technology resources to ensure that uses are secure and in conformity with this policy. Violations of Policy 6:330 may result in disciplinary action, including, but not limited to, usage restrictions, loss of instructional technology subsidy, disciplinary action, and/or criminal prosecution.
Access to and Use of Approved Platforms and Applications
CCA uses online platforms and applications that may collect limited personal information from learners. The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 and its regulations (collectively, “COPPA”) require online educational platforms and applications to inform parents/guardians and schools about their practices for collecting, using, and disclosing personal information from students who are under the age of 13. The law allows CCA, on behalf of parents/guardians, to consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
The COPPA Notice only applies to consent for online educational platforms and applications and supplements CCA’s Privacy Policy.
Prior to participating in CCA’s educational program, learners and Caretakers must acknowledge and consent to the use of third-party educational platforms and applications.
Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) Notice
Commonwealth Charter Academy uses online websites, applications, and extensions (also referred to herein as “online educational resources”) to provide educational content and experiences to learners.
The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) is a federal law that requires websites to provide parental notification and obtain consent before collecting, using, and disclosing personal information from students. The law applies to students under 13 years of age. The law permits CCA, on behalf of parents/guardians, to consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information, thereby eliminating the need for individual parental consent given directly to the website.
CCA maintains the following list of approved online educational resources. This list is updated regularly, so please check back. Each resource contains a link to the website’s privacy policy, which describes how or if the site collects and/or uses student data.
In order for learners to use these approved online educational resources, CCA may provide certain personal information of learners, such as name, date of birth, grade level, and/or CCA email address, to create educational accounts.
Prior to participating in CCA’s educational program, learners and Caretakers must acknowledge and give consent for CCA to create accounts through internal and third-party educational websites, applications, and extensions. If you have an objection to any of the educational resources after reviewing the list, please submit your objection in writing to your child’s principal with an opt-out request for the specific resources to which you object.
