Students Collect Donations for Veterans in Need
WILLIAMSPORT — Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA) students on Friday, May 18, packed donations collected by students and teachers to share with veterans in need. CCA shared all donations with the Veterans Multi-Service Center (VMC), a nonprofit organization serving veterans in need throughout Pennsylvania, to distribute items the school collected.
According to the Veterans Multi-Service Center, more than 500 veterans in Lycoming and surrounding counties are in need. To support them, CCA students, families and teachers from the area have collected hygiene products, socks, sunscreen and nonperishable food to increase the VMC’s supply of items needed for summer.
This donation drive was part of CCA’s ongoing community-building campaign called Climate of Caring. This campaign is an effort for families to reach out to others in their region and offer support.
“I am a firm believer that one of the most valuable lessons to learn and carry out is kindness,” said Brittany Frey, CCA teacher and organizer of the donation drive. “I love that we can provide our students and their families with opportunities to show kindness and gratitude, especially to those who have served to protect us.”
CCA students also created cards expressing their thanks for the veterans’ military service.
