Pennsylvania student to perform at pre-Inauguration Day event

Commonwealth Charter Academy student Andrea Griesacker and her baton-twirling team are one of 12 groups (out of 400) chosen to perform at the Presidential Inaugural Welcome Concert on Jan. 19.

Andrea is a Junior Olympian and has received several gold medals in baton-twirling competitions. A Littlestown (Adams County) resident, Andrea is the only Pennsylvania member on the TwirlTasTix team, which is based in Bel Air, Maryland.

For 11 years, Andrea has been mastering the art of baton twirling, taking her to numerous national and international competitions and various parades, including most recently the Miss America Parade.

Andrea’s mom, Anna Griesacker, credits the flexible school schedule at CCA for Andrea to be this active in baton twirling. “Without the flexibility that CCA provides, she would not be able to compete and perform at the level she does,” Anna Griesacker said. “CCA really makes it possible for her to compete with TwirlTasTix and enables her to participate in the extra opportunities that have come with her baton twirling.”

Aside from baton twirling, Andrea also is a member of the Adventure Club at CCA and participates in the school’s STEM Conservatory events. The high school senior has been accepted to attend several colleges for the fall 2017 semester.

The Presidential Inaugural Welcome Concert will be held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Jan. 19.
